Overview and Features of Infrared Zoom Lens

Infrared zoom lens is a camera lens that can change the focal length within a specific range to obtain different wide and narrow viewing angles, images of various sizes, and various scene ranges.

The infrared zoom lens can change the shooting range by changing the focal length without changing the shooting distance. Therefore, the infrared zoom lens is very conducive to the composition of the picture.

Since one infrared zoom lens can double as multiple fixed-focus lenses, the number of photographic equipment to be carried when traveling is reduced, and the time for changing lenses is saved.

Infrared zoom lenses are divided into motorized infrared zoom lenses and manual focus infrared lenses.

IR zoom lenses are more prone to flare than other lenses, so a proper lens hood is essential. Sometimes, the obscuration caused by the hood is not visible on the viewfinder screen of the SLR camera, but it can show on the film. This is most noticeable when shooting with small apertures. Infrared zoom lenses usually use a lens hood.

Some hoods are effective at the telephoto end, but when zoomed to the short end, the photo will have vignetting caused by occlusion, which cannot be seen on the viewfinder screen.

Some IR zoom lenses require turning two separate control rings, one for focus and one for focus. The advantage of this structural layout is that once the focus is achieved, the focus point will not be accidentally changed by adjusting the focus.

Other SWIR zoom lenses only need to move a control ring, turn the focus, and slide back and forth to change the focal length.

This “single ring” zoom lens is usually faster and easier to handle, but it’s also usually more expensive. It should be noted that when changing the focal length, do not lose the clear focus of the infrared zoom lens.

Use supports appropriately. When using a focal length of 300NM or longer, the lens should be fixed on a tripod or other bracket to ensure stability during shooting.
